Business is generally considered a pretty hard-boiled game, but Humpty's business supporters showed they have a soft centre when it comes to children at the first annual Good Egg supporter’s lunch on March 2.
With the 2007 Balmoral Burn fast approaching, businesses weren't missing the opportunity to get their teams registered early for the big race.
The Burn has become an increasingly notable event on the corporate calendar as healthy competition between some of Sydney's most high-profile companies heats up.
Within an hour of the lunch beginning, and with just a little persuasion from Rugby great and Burn founder Phil Kearns, companies including Westpac, 2UE, Dymocks, Golden Stave Foundation, IAG, Commonwealth Bank, Transfer Australia, First Data, Bravura Solutions, St George Bank, Janellis Australia, Express Data, Australia Post, Coates Hire, NSW TCorp, Man Investments, South Pacific Private Hospital, Fitness First, Walker Corporation, Stryker South Pacific and Xstrata Coal registered for the corporate competition.
"It's only 420m. Just don't tell your staff there's a hill involved," was Kearns' advice to bosses intending to nominate staff to take on the race up one of Sydney's steepest hills.
"There are four tickets given to every team for the Sponsors' Dinner on the Friday night. Just don't give those tickets to people actually running," he said.
This year to encourage supporters from companies to join their four official runners on the day, eight places will be offered to each team for the barbecue after the event.
Last year sixty five corporate teams took on the hill. Humpty is aiming for 90 corporate teams to join the race this year in an effort to raise $1.5 million for our children’s hospitals across Sydney.
